It’s Safer Internet Day

February 10th 2015

Today is Safer Internet Day, and we're urging you to play your part in helping to create a better internet together. Safer Internet Day is an annual global event which promotes safe and responsible use of online technology – including mobile devices – chiefly amongst children and young people. It addresses many of the issues on which we provide advice on this website.

In the UK, today will see hundreds of organisations get involved to highlight the positive uses of technology and explore the role that we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community … young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers and many, many more.

Ultimately, a better and safer internet is down to us all, a theme which is again echoed in the event’s strapline: Let’s create a better internet together

You can find out what different organisations in this country are doing to promote Safer Internet Day 2015 by visiting www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2015

The website is your portal to resources such as SID TV, a show for 8 – 15 year olds on being safe online presented by Molly and Harvey from CBBC's Friday Download show, a range of great downloadable education packs for primary and secondary schools and parents/carers, and a list of other things you can do to play your part in making the internet a safer place.

Safer Internet Day is celebrated in over 100 countries around the world, coordinated by the joint Insafe/INHOPE network, with the support of the European Commission, and 31 national Safer Internet Centres across Europe. In the UK, the event is coordinated by the UK Safer Internet Centre.
