Get Safe Online launches new Spot the AI tool

October 10th 2024

  • Helps people learn to spot what is AI and what is genuine

To further support Get AI-Safe Online Week this year, Get Safe Online has today launched its Spot the AI tool, designed to support people in distinguishing between what is genuine and what has been created by AI when browsing the internet, receiving messages and in everyday life.

When a new technology comes along, as well as being used for positive applications, it is also invariably hijacked for use by those who exploit it for harmful purposes. The same is true for AI (Artificial Intelligence). In the online world, for example, it is being used by cybercriminals to commit fraud and produce deepfake images and videos, and in the world of politics to influence and even persuade people to change their beliefs and ideologies, all very convincingly.

Spot the AI is a new tool from Get Safe Online that prevents people with a series of online scenarios and challenges to see if they can spot the difference between AI and the real thing. Users can access it by visiting the Get Safe Online website: Spot the AI Tool (getsafeonline.org)

Tony Neate, CEO at Get Safe Online comments: “AI has been with us for far longer than you might realise, playing its part in many aspects of our everyday lives from social media to satnav, online dating to booking a table. We want to make sure that however you use AI, you do so safely, securely and with confidence. Our new Spot the AI tool is designed to help you understand how it can be used, so you can guard yourself from being tricked by criminals exploiting its development.”
