Games publisher Blizzard has said that it will test in-game micro payments to its popular title World of Warcraft. The move prompts us to remind players of massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) to exercise care when buying property in order to avoid fraudulent activities by third parties.
In a post on the official game forum, Blizzard revealed: "We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game. As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR. We’ll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses."
The first item that buyers will be able to buy is an elixir to enhance experience points which they earn from kills and loot, the BBC reports. Currently, game players can buy items only to help them progress in the game via Blizzard's external store.
A Blizzard spokesman commented: "We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game," adding that more details will be revealed soon. It is widely thought that the in-game purchases will be released first in Asia where most of World of Warcraft's players are located.
