Action on Elder Abuse Cymru is holding its first annual conference on the 21st November in Cardiff, entitled ‘Financially Safe and Secure? – Working together to protect older people from financial abuse’. Deadline for booking places is Thursday 27 October.
The day will cover scams as well as financial crimes perpetrated by people known to the victim, which have such a devastating impact on the well-being of older people. Delegates will hear from a range of speakers examining the current practice in Wales aiming to combat financial abuse.
Speakers include:

The agenda also includes a panel discussion followed by a Q&A with representatives from the Crown Prosecution Service, Office of the Public Guardian, Trading Standards and the Police.
Workshop themes include: the role of advocacy in supporting victims; examining the perpetrators of financial abuse; how the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act protects older people from financial abuse.
The conference is aimed at anyone concerned about the financial abuse of older people, those who work with or support older people, and those with an interest in developing understanding of the issue, including:

- Health professionals
- The police
- Health and social care
- The financial sector
- Older people and carers
