Every year, a massive £1.2 billion is lost to investment scams in this country. As we all know, fraudsters are getting more clever by the day, and they're using the ploy of high returns on schemes such as share sales, wine investments, land banking and carbon credits to lure in unsuspecting victims. Anyone – however seemingly savvy – can become a victim, but you can reduce your risk if you follow some simple advice.
Action Fraud, the UK's national fraud reporting resource, has teamed up with Financial Fraud Action UK, the FSA and other bodies in a campaign to raise awareness of the problem. They're calling it 'The Devil's in their Details' and all the information can be found by clicking here.
Put quite simply, not taking simple steps to check the details of who you’re investing with is just far too risky.
