How to download the information held about you
On your computer
- On your ‘main’ page (timeline, wall?), find the downward-pointing arrow on the right-hand side of the dark blue band at the top.
- Click on the arrow and select ‘Settings’ from the drop-down menu. This will open the ‘General Account Settings’ page.
- In the left-hand column, click on ‘Your Facebook information’. This will open the ‘Your Facebook information’ page.
- Click ‘Download your information’. This will open the ‘Download your information’ page.
- The ‘New file’ tab will be selected by default if you have not downloaded the information previously. Carefully select the categories of information you want to download, and the date range you would like the information to cover. Note that if you click on a historic date on the ‘from’ calendar, you need to check the year on the ‘do’ calendar so that it does not default to the same year as the ‘from’ calendar.
- We recommend you keep the default ‘HTML’ format and ‘High’ Media quality. Click the blue ‘Create File’ button.
- You will receive a Facebook email acknowledging the request, then another to let you know that your information file is available.
- Clicking on a link in the second email will take you back to the ‘Download your information’ page. Clicking on the ‘Download’ button will result in a pop-up requesting your password. Enter your password and ‘OK’ will download your information in a .zip file.
